News articles are a fantastic resource for this task. Here's how to find them:
1. Use the questions on your assessment notification and your own research to decide on 3-4 words that would be in the news articles you are looking for. Type them into Google. You don't need to use full sentences.
2. Click on the News tab under the search box.
3. You can look for articles from certain years. Click on the Tools menu under the search bar, click on Recent, and select Custom range from the menu. Remember that even though some of these events took place on a particular date, the consequences, public discussion, and reforms that occurred took place over a longer period of time so don't limit your search to just the year that the original event took place. A good guideline would be to have a date range of five years. (Eg. If your event took place in 2010, set the date range from 2010-2015)
4. Not all of the articles in the search results will be freely available, but your parents might have a subscription to some of the newspapers. The ABC and The Guardian are free to open, and the Sydney Morning Herald gives you access to five free articles.

Native Title: Overturning Terra Nullius
This is a complicated topic to research because you're probably going to need to use a number of websites. There isn't one website that talks about all of the information you will need to answer these questions. Use these websites as a start, and then use the questions in your assessment notification to make a list of any information you still need and search for each thing on the list individually. Go and chat to Miss Hewson in the Learning Commons if you get stuck.
Terra Nullius - Racism NoWay
Native Title - Australian Trade and Investment Commission
Aboriginal and Treaty rights in Aotearoa, NZ - Mabo The Native Title Revolution
Maoris are better integrated into NZ-society than Aboriginals in Australia. Here's why - Medium
The Mabo decision - National Reconciliation Week 2017
These six charts show the state of discrimination towards Indigenous Australians - Sydney Morning Herald
Something's not right - Australians Together
Closing the gap report 2020 website - Australian Government (Here is an overview of the report)
Old news articles are a fantastic resource for this task. Here is how to find them:
(To find articles that talk about these issues now, use Google News and follow the instructions in the sections above.)
To find historical articles, you can use Trove. Old newspaper articles will show the news from the time of some of these events (old newspapers don't go as far back as settlement though!).
Type your keywords into the search box. Use the questions on your assessment notification and your own research to decide on 3-4 words that would be in the news articles you are looking for. You don't need to type full sentences into Trove. Click on where it says 'All categories' and change it to 'Newspapers and gazettes'.
Trove is a collection of newspapers that have been scanned, so they can be hard to read. Play around with the different buttons to zoom in and make the article bigger, or use the text on the left to read the article (sometimes this text will be gibberish because a computer has tried to read the scan and has made mistakes, and a person hasn't corrected them yet).
If your search results have too many articles from years that you're not interested in, click on 'Advanced search', then 'Newspapers and gazettes' and it will take you to a page where you can choose a date range. Remember that even though some of these events took place on a particular date, the consequences, public discussion, and reforms that occurred took place over a longer period of time so don't limit your search to just the year that the original event took place.
