Chinese food
Step 1: You should start by reading a bit about Chinese food. The food you might have had in Chinese restaurants in Australia isn't necessarily the same food that people eat in China, so you'll need to find out what people do eat in China. SBS Food has a short article about food in China. What Chinese eat Wikipedia has an overview of Chinese cuisine. Yes, usually you get told not to use Wikipedia for assignments! While you shouldn't use it as a source in your bibliography, it can be a good place to start your research by getting an overview of the topic, and sometimes the references at the bottom of the page will be useful to you. Step 2: Once you've got a basic understanding of Chinese food, you can decide what dish you're going to choose for your assignment. Here are some websites that list some popular Chinese dishes. This list of Chinese dishes on Wikipedia is a long list, and includes the Chinese characters for the dishes. This website has some information about Chinese food, as well as some Chinese dishes, including a list of typical breakfast dishes. This Chinese tourism website has a list of eight popular Chinese dishes. The SBS Food website has a whole section on Chinese cooking, and many of the recipes have information about how the food is part of Chinese culture. Step 3: Once you've chosen your dish you need to research it. Some of the links above have information on the dishes. When you're looking for more information, here are some tips:

Chinese festivals
Step 1: You should start by finding out about Chinese festivals. In Australia the Chinese community celebrate Chinese New Year, but in China there are many more festivals throughout the year. The following websites tell you a bit about the festivals in China. The Travel China Guide has a list of traditional festivals, and if you click the name of the festival you will go to a page with more information about it. Here is a long list of Chinese festivals. Another list of traditional festivals that will take you to more information when you click the name of each festival. Wikipedia's list of traditional Chinese festivals includes the Chinese characters for each festival. Step 2: One you have chosen your festival you need to research it. You can find information on some of the pages above, and Encyclopaedia Britannica also has some articles about different Chinese festivals.
