Setting up your space
- Find a dedicated space in your home. This should be at a desk or table with good lighting and a comfortable chair. It's better if you aren't in your bedroom, so that you associate your room with sleep and relaxing and you associate your workspace with work.
- Find everything you need for school, like headphones, chargers, textbooks etc., and have them ready.
- Keep a water bottle nearby so you can stay hydrated.
- After you've worked in your new school spot for a while, think about whether you can see your screen well enough- is there enough light, or is there glare from a nearby window? Don't just ignore these problems as it's important to look after your eyes. Do you have any back, neck or wrist pain? You might need to make some adjustments to how your chair and computer are set up. Ask your parents if you need help with this. Don't ignore aches and pains, because they can turn into long-term injuries if you don't fix what's causing them.
Don't forget to move
At school you move around when the bell goes, but at home you're missing out on the movement you get at school between classes. It's important for your concentration and for your health that you still move, so here are some tips for doing that.

How to stay focussed
- Establish a routine.
- Write a to-do list for each day, if it helps.
- Check in with a friend or parent to keep yourself accountable.
- If you're feeling sleepy, get up and move.
- Resist the temptation to graze on unhealthy snacks all day.
- Remember to drink plenty of water; it's harder to concentrate when you're dehydrated.
- If you're struggling, talk to your teacher.
- Some days are going to be more productive than others. If you're having a day where you're struggling to focus and you feel bad about it at the end of the day, do something to relax, practise some self-care, try and get a good night's sleep, and remember that tomorrow is a new day.
